The King's Speech
The King’s Speech won the best picture oscar in 2011. Colin Firth was brilliant beyond recognition. A great actor is one who disappears into his role. We saw the very human king with a stutter. Portrayed beautifully by Mr Darcy?
This is a movie that’s soulful. With far more depth than the usual summer action movies or block busters. Great acting by the entire cast carried this through. Beautifully.
It tells a very human story about King George VI, who has a problem with his speech. He stammers and stutters. As a member of the royal family, he has to give very public speeches. His pain is made so real when he makes his maiden speech.. haltingly.. painfully.
One emphathizes with him.
His supportive wife, Queen Elizabeth introduces him to Lionel, an unconventional speech therapist who helps the then Prince (whom he calls Bertie) through his trials. When the Prince’s brother abdicates the throne. Bertie has no choice but to take on the role of the King of England, during the war.
This is a heartwarming tale.
Of friendship.
Of courage.
Of one man’s determination to overcome his challenges, so that he can inspire his people, as the voice of British resistance against German forces during the war.
